Hello everyone,
A while back I posted a topic on the Millers in New England trying to research William H. Miller's side of the family. But now, I'm here to try to solve a little mystery about his wife, Amelia F. Allen.
There are many census' that record Amelia, but the ending ones confuse me, hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject.
Here is the 1850 Census, which is the first census she shows up on.
Name: Amelia F Allen
Age: 7
Estimated birth year: abt 1843
Birth Place: Massachusetts
Gender: Female
Home in 1850 (City,County,State): New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts
Family Number: 2570
Household Members: Name Age
Phillip Allen 47
Sarah H Allen 44
Thomas M Allen 15
Maria C Allen 16
Phebe S Allen 14
George P Allen 12
Andrew H Allen 14
Amelia F Allen 7
Next item of information is her bible. In the bible it states
Reward of Merit for procuring funds to aid the cause of Missions Brooklyn July 1854
Presented to Millie F Miller By Jack Sh...? (Shannon?)
New Bedford Mass
So she would have been 11 years old when presented this bible. I’m not quite sure what she did though to receive this bible, can someone try to explain?

Okay, now here is the big jump. In 1890 there is no census, so we have to skip it. I knew that Amelia had lived past 1910 so I knew she would be on the census. I thought to use the name Millie F. and the 1900 & 1910 census’ showed up. But they do confuse me.
Here is the 1900

It says she was born in May of 1850. This would have been very far off from her original birth year of 1843. I originally did not think it was her, but then saw Mabel R. Miller (her daughter) with her in the census. It says she was born in February of 1877 and that is exactly when Mabel was born.
The 1910 does the same thing.
Name: Millie F Miller

Mabel R Miller 33
Her birth year is 1847, which is 4 years off of the original, and 3 years off of 1850. Her birth years seem to keep jumping, and I’m not sure why. But here again is Mabel R. Miller who is her daughter and the dates are perfect for her. Strangley enough, it says Millie is MARRIED. Which is a big shocker, I’m very confused as to who she would be married to. Maybe it’s a transcription error like the dates.
Could anyone try to find out why her name changes on the census and why her dates change as well? My mother thought “Maybe she wasn’t around when the census’ people came and recorded their ages and so they just estimated” would that seem right?
I can’t find her in any 1920 census, but she may be there. Maybe searching Wilmer Dixon (Doxon) will find her.
I hope to hear your opinions too and if you think this is the same person.
Thank you
