Cormacks and Clarks from Caithness
« on: Thursday 18 March 10 19:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am doing my familty tree.  My mum gave me some good information before she sadly passed awaylast year.

I have an old photograph which I have scanned and added the names I know.  If anyone can provide me with more information that would be appreciated.

Michael

Welcome to Rootschat. It's lovely to have family photos, especially when they are named, but you'll need to start and slowly work your way back through records to find more family details. We can perhaps help find information or suggest where to look if you give us more details.
You'll hopefully know your mother's name and birthdate and perhaps the names of her parents? The most recent Scottish census available is 1901 so if you get that far back there's a good chance of getting much further back through census records.
Scotland's People website is the place to search for births, deaths and marriages- their website will tell you what details are on Scottish certificates and how to buy credits to view the certificates.
There are lots of helpful people on the various Scottish boards and since your roots seem to be Caithness I'm going to move your post to that board to see if anyone can help.

To provide more information my mum's mum was Annie Cormack from the photo and her dad was William Alexander Clark.

Annie Cormack and William Alexander Clark were married in Latheron on 8th September 1920.

My mum (Helen Janet Sutherland Clark born 4/10/1934) had four sisters:
Marjory Clark
Catherine (Kathy) Clark
Mame Clark who emigrated to Canada
Annie McIntosh Cormack Clark (known as Nancy)

Also one brother Duncan Clark.

There was I believe another baby who died just after birth.

I hope this helps with more information.

It's possible that Annie Cormack and William Alexander Clark would have been born before 1901 and included on that census. Since you have the date of their marriage you should be able to get a copy of the certificate if you haven't gotten it already.
Think it might be a good idea to read through this thread about starting Scottish research-

and then the on full of hints for getting the best results from Scotland's People searches-

Please remember that details of living, or possibly living, people aren't allowed to be posted here.

Hi Ev

Could I ask for clarification on two names please?  You have typed Jane and Christina.  I had thought they were Jean and Christine.  I just wanted to make sure they were not typos.  It is interesting if they are Jane and Chrstina as it shows what happens to word of mouth information and recollections.

Thanks

Michaelm
