Boundary Street East, Kirkdale, Liverpool - COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 18 March 10 22:59 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone look to see who was living at 3 Boundary Street East, Kirkdale, Liverpool at the time of 1881 census.

Alternatively (or even as well!) please could someone look in a Liverpool directory to see if there was an entry for that address around the mid 1870's.

Thanks in anticipation  :)

Huckleberry,

Thanks very much.......but these were the details for Boundary Street, not Boundary Street East.    In 1871, the Dancer family were still at this same address, but John and Catherine Hughes (both aged 47) and family were at 3 Boundary Street East.

I must admit I looked myself on The Genealogist and could only find even numbers for Boundary Street East in 1881.  I was hoping someone with a sub to another site would have more luck.

I'm interested in this address because a relative died there in Jan 1876 as a result of falling downstairs under the influence of drink, but she had been living in Manchester as recently as 18 months earlier, so I am trying to establish if she was living there or just visiting, in which case who was living there in Jan 1876.

But thank you for looking, Huckleberry and maybe with a few more details, you or someone else may be able to have a second look for me  :)

NOTE I've edited the subject line too

There is no 3 Boundary Street East listed   The street starts from 5 then 5a, 5b, 5c then 7.  Perhaps they knocked it down in honour of her death

Ha ha - There were wine and spirit vaults at Nos 1 and 2 in 1894 according to the Directory and at No 4 was a loan office, so I think the occupants were too sozzled to fill in the census form...... ::)..... or maybe more likely, there were no tenants in there in 1881.

Thanks for your help, Huckleberry  :)

If anyone has access to a mid 1870s Directory, I would still appreciate a look up for the address though.

Thank you , Shaun.  John Hughes had also been there in 1871.

I'm closing in on the date now, I wonder if a directory exists for say 1876/1877.  If no-one on Rootschat has one just sitting on their bookshelves, I will try emailing Liverpool Record Office/Archives on Monday.

Thanks to both who have helped.  :)

I must admit I looked myself on The Genealogist and could only find even numbers for Boundary Street East in 1881.

It may not be important given the period you are researching but Boundary Street East had previously been called Croston Street - up to at least 1865. I think the odd numbers (north side) of Boundary Street East were in Everton, rather than Kirkdale. The even numbers (south side) were in the Parish of Liverpool.

The south side of Boundary Street was in the Parish of Liverpool, while the north side was in Kirkdale.

The directories will only record the head of household, and certainly not visitors.

Ken, Thank you for your interest.   I have the death cert for my relative, giving the address and district in 1876, but I wanted to know if she was visiting another family at that address or whether she and her husband were living there at the time of the accident.
I have today emailed Liverpool Record Office to ask if they have a directory for these years (1875/6/7) and if they could do a look up for me.  I'm hoping they'll come up with something.
