GRAVE REF. INI What does it mean?
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 11:28 GMT (UK) »
Can someone please tell me what INI means when given as a Grave Reference on CWGC.

Thank you,

I guess it depends on where the cemetery is and what sort of numbering system was used.  In the Commission's own cemeteries the system tends to be more uniform but if, for example, the burial is in a UK municipal cemetery than there might be more variation.  If it's in a CWGC cemetery, have you looked at the cemetery plan for guidance?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
It's on the CWGC site relating to one of their cemeteries in France.
That's the only thing it says under Grave Reference.
None of the others I have researched have anything like that.  I thought it may mean something in particular that I am not aware of.
Cheers,
Pat.

Did you look at the cemetery plan? Perhaps if you let us have details of the name, date of death etc we can take a look for you.  Can't promise anything but an extra set of eyes might just help

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
No, I didn't look at the cemetery plan, as I thought the INI as the grave reference must be an acronym.
But as no one has come up with an answer I think I must be wrong.
I shall now do what I should have done in the first place and have a look at the cemetery plan as you suggest.
Cheers,
Pat.
