Where is Long Heaton? COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 15:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

In the 1901 census there is a birth place given as Long Heaton, Scotland.

Any ideas where this is?

Thanks

Hi,

I haven`t paid to see the image yet as I don`t know if it`s the person I`m looking for.  On the search results page it just has Scotland Long Heaton.

It is Alexander Robertson I was looking for, born somewhere in Scotland and living in Jarrow in County Durham.

Regards

Hi  :)

I have the 1881:-

Alexander Robertson, 35, born Scotland, ship plater
Rebecca Robertson, 36, born Scotland
Ann Robertson, 7, born Scotland
James Robertson, 6, born Scotland
Isabella Robertson, 4, born Scotland
Joan Robertson, 2, born Hebburn, Co Durham
Living at 31 Hood St, Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow

1901

William Milne, 27, single, boarder, carter for contractor, born Scotland
Joan Robertson, 22, single, housekeeper domestic, born Hebburn, Co Durham
Living at 6 Swindon St, Hebburn
(I have the marriage cert of William and Joan, who are my G Grandparents and the 1911 of them and their children)

William came from Stonehaven in Kincardine, and there seems to be a connection to the Robertson`s from Scotland. My Aunt seems to think there is a Dundee connection somewhere but I haven`t found it yet (that`s if it even exists)

I might just have to buy some more credits for the 1901 and 1911 to find out where Alexander came from in Scotland. I looked at the 1901 and there were a few Robertson`s in Jarrow and thought that if I could find out where Long Heaton was, I could rule out one of the possibilities.

There are quite a few Heaton placenames around Cornhill on Tweed, right on the border.
Skewis (Wales and Scotland), Ayers (Maidenhead, Berkshire), Hildreth (Berkshire)

Possible marriage for them. If you view the record on SP it should confirm his parents and his father's occupation

1871 ROBERTSON ALEXANDER and MCINTYRE REBECCA at OLD MONKLAND (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK

Thank you for your suggestions  :)

I`ve just had a look at that marriage and the Alexander on there gives his age as 21 (which would mean birth year of 1850) and his occupation is given as miner.

Alexander had died by 1902, (when his daughter Joan married William Milne)  and there is a death in South Shields in 1897 aged 54.

I`m going to have a look on Google and then I think I might have to buy some credits for the 1901. If I find out where Long Heaton is - I`ll let you know !!

Kindest regards
