« on: Saturday 20 March 10 22:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find the death records for my ggg grandparents
I know they married in 1868 but they seem to have dissappeared off the face of the earth since  :) I have searched on census and on ancestry
i have tried Aberdeen fhs records and mmi's no luck either  wondered if any one had them in their trees :)
Thanks hopefully

Hi

Which of their children are you descended from?  If you give name and details of birthplace/birthyear we may be able to find them

Hi
I am a descendant of Amelias son George Smith illegitamate son of William Smith Distiller in Insch  who changed his name to George Smith Mackie, when I first picked him up in England in Reigate.
I dont know when he came to England  He had a son Frank Howard Mackie
who was born at 159 George Street Aberdeen in 1874  and I have often wondered why the couple would have travelled to Aberdeen in the later stages of pregnancy leaving their two other young children with their grandparents in Essex
I have found a John Fyfe at 174 George Street but cant connect them
I really have tried all possiblities and I am stumped
Ronnie :(

You probably already have the following info but it helps to see birthyears/places etc for background purposes

Quote
I know they married in 1868

Think you mean 1858

AMELIA MACKIE    Spouse:  ALEXANDER FYFE     Marriage:  29 JAN 1858   Old Machar, Aberdeen

GEORGE SMITH   Birth:  22 AUG 1838   Christening:  13 SEP 1838   Insch, Aberdeen,    Father:  WILLIAM SMITH   Mother:  AMELIA MACKIE

This means Amelia married 20yrs after George was born

1841 census for Insch - all b Aberdeen

William MacKie 76
Jane Cruickshank 71
Amelia MacKie 25
George Smith 2
Insch ED 4 Page  1 Line 1430

1851 for Aberdeen - both b Insch

Amelia MacKie 32 Teacher Of Reading Writing & Dressmaker
George Smith 12 Tailors apprentice
Aberdeen South ED 2 Page  2 Line 28

And that's where the trail ends for Amelia.  I am assuming you have checked Scotlands People for a death for her

Marriages June qtr 1868
Esther Howard to George Smith Mackie         Reigate  2a 215

FRANK HOWARD MACKIE   Birth:  12 SEP 1874   Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen
Father:  GEORGE MACKIE    Mother:  ESTHER HOWARD

Hi

Yes I did make a typo on the date apologies for that   but yes I agree with you on all the latter details

I have checked on more than one occasion on Scotland on line as I know they update sometimes but I cant find any trace I had a contact from someone of my Genes Reunited tree who was searching on the Reids which was Alexanders first wife and he had come to a dead end on the deaths too  I looked at emigrations too but could not find them as somewhere in the back of mind I had a thought that someone in my family went to Maryland USA  at some stage  but that didn't turn up anything either
 :(

In 1891 and 1901 the children are in Essex with Uncle William Howard.  1891 entry is incorrectly indexed as Mackle and has Frank and brother William Smith Mackie with their uncle whilst sister Alice Maud is a servant elsewhere in Colchester

In 1881 - Alice is with her Howard grandparents in Essex whilst George and son William are incorrectly indexed as Machin.  No sign of Frank

William Smith Mackie 10 b Red Hill Surrey

If Alexander Fyfe married Charlotte Reid in 1828 - he was a fair few years older than Amelia.

She would have been about 40 in 1858 and he would have been in his 50's.  If he is the Alexander Fyfe in Old Machar in 1841 then he would have been nearer to 70

in 1881 Frank is listed as  "Frand" on the census which is why you couldnt find him he is registered as being next door with his aunt and uncle

I did begin to think Alexander was older going by the ages of his children with  Charlotte  I have also been told that he married for a 2nd time before he married Amelia to someone called Agnes but I dont think that is going to help me....I also seem to remember when I was searching on Scotlands people on my old computer that I found Alex in a Hospital in Aberdeen  but I dont have that info any longer and it doesn't seem to come up in any current  searches either
I hate to admit defeat but I think I may have to  I was thinking that maybe Amelia died about  the 1874 time that George and his wife were in Aberdeen as I cant find any other relative of hers for them to visit
I am assuming she had a brother William as there were two baptisms when george smith was baptised and one was william snr and the other william snr  but I have never been able to find any other blood relatives of her

I ran across this thread whilst researching the Fyfe family of Alloa/Clackmannan Scotland/NSW Australia.

I was looking in NZ records as I know there is a connection there, just trying to crack it, and noticed the name Mackie popping up as a middle name on some Fyfes. I have seen the name before in articles on Robina Fyfe (NSW, AU 1863-1944) as it mentions Mackie nieces and nephews in her obits but I haven't been able to find how Mackies are connected to Fyfes yet.
You may wanna investigate Kiwi hatch match and dispatch, Alexander Mackie Fyfe etc. I also noticed the use of the name Elspeth in the NZ family which is a traditional name in the Alloa/Clackmannan Scotland/NSW Australia Fyfes which descends multiple generations.
