looking for Osbaldiston
« on: Tuesday 23 March 10 18:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi can anyone find me anything on a Joseph Osbaldiston born England 1888, believe he went across to Canada in 1912 to serve in the CEF. I have found his assestation record on the Canada Libary Service but have been unable to find when he travelled.
Thanks in anticipation.

Silvercloud, do you already have his border crossing in 1921 (from Canada to U.S.)?  This Joseph was born 6 January 1888 in Bradford, England.

Update:  I cannot view further information but there is a Joseph Osbaldiston, born 1888, arriving in Canada in 1913.  Found on the Canadian Passenger Lists.

There is a Joseph Osbaldiston, 25, on the Canada which arrived in Halifax on 17 Mar 1913 and in Portland, Maine on 18 Mar 1913. It appears Joseph disembarked in Portland. His occupation in the country he left was weaver and his intended occupation was farm labourer. His destination is listed as Montreal. I can't seem to find the passenger list for the Canada at Library and Archives Canada so can't provide a link.

If you go to
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases
under Passenger Lists, you will find the Canada listed. You can view the original passenger list for more information
Canada
White Star Line
Departed Liverpool, England 1913/03/08
Arrived Halifax, NS, Canada 1913/03/17

Joseph Osbaldiston, age 25, destination Montreal, Quebec is on page 8 almost at the bottom of the page.

You can also view his attestation papers at the same collections canada site under Soldiers of the First World War. You can order his complete military file at this site as well. All you need is a credit card and the information from his attestation papers. The file may provide valuable information.

I haven't had enough coffee this morning.
Previous post, site takes you directly to Passenger lists so just start at search and follow instructions from there.
