william PRENTICE 1858
« on: Saturday 27 March 10 12:42 GMT (UK) »
William seems to disappear after 1871 census until 1911 when there's a possible entry on the 1911 census

other info I have is
born Bledlow 1858
1861 Chinnor
1871 Church End Union School, Bledlow
I cannot find him after that on census or marriage/death records until the poosible 1911 entry.
Can anyone help?
.
Many thanks

Does the 1911 entry give any clues - occupation, family etc?

I wonder if this is him in 1901?  I can't find either of these in earlier censuses and 1861 has William with a brother John  :-\
Although there is quite a distance between the birth places.

1901  RG13; Piece: 1374; Folio: 126; Page: 5
Oxford Road Inn Oakley, Bucks

William Prentice head single 41yrs Beer house keeper
John Prentice brother single 45 yrs Pig Dealer Cattle D  (occupation fits with 1861 for Edward- father)

both born Colnbrook

not so sure but at the moment, best I can find  :-\

Thanks for taking the time to look into this.  I think the bachelor brothers are a definite possibility although the Colnbrook thing is a mystery.  But we all know it has been known that things get misheard, misspelt or deliberately changed for whatever reason.
If this is them then the family has come to a bit of a sorry state - Dad ending his days in the workhouse having gone a bit gaga.  Mum died shortly after the birth and subsequent death in the same year of her last child. Possible death of 1 sister as a child. Only 1 sister married, the others all appearing to remain single and employed in various households as some sort of domestic.  I seem to be descended from a spinster sister who gave birth to a son who was then brought up by a seemingly unconnected family.
Unless anyone out there knows different!
Thanks again for your help.
Would still like to find them in 81 though ...

Yes I noticed that they became rather sad. Dad is a hawker in 1881, I think, so perhaps William and John were on the road for those years or army or prison?  ???
