George MURRANT/ Ann HUNT Marriage - Portsea
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 03:06 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Is anyone able to check the marriage register/banns of St Mary's, Portsea for details of the marriage between George MURRANT and Ann HUNT on 6 April 1829.  I am hoping for any extra info on Ann who was born at Andover c 1808.

Regards,

Debra

I'm not sure what you are hoping to find.  The entry will not show parents' names for example.

Does her birthplace come from a census?  Only I'm not finding her in Andover at that time at the moment.

Hi Nell,

I was really just hoping for names of witnesses, confirmation that Ann was a spinster, and that HUNT was her birth name.  The birthplace is from a census and of the four that she appears on (not counting 1841) she gives Andover twice and Alverstoke twice.  I believe the Alverstoke entries may have been due to convenience as that was where her husband was born.  :-\

I can't confirm whether she was a spinster or not, but she would only have been 21 when she married George.  On the balance of probabilities, it is less likely that she had already married and been widowed by that age, but not impossible.

Looking for baptisms of Hunts in Andover or Alverstoke does not produce any Ann, Anne, Anna or Hannah  :-\

There is a baptism in Portsea for an Ann, daughter of William and Ann Hunt, 15 Dec 1808.  Another in 1809, for Ann daughter of Thomas and Ann.

Those are the closest by both date and location.  :-\
