Help with USA Birth Certificate & Kelly & Johnson
« on: Monday 29 March 10 11:38 BST (UK) »
Hello
The first part of help is simple.
I have a Birth Cert of somebody born in Virginia USA 1962, I have been told that this is not a real one. The one i have is in two parts being one from the Hospital and one from the Commonwealth state of Virginia. I was wondering if maybe somebody could send me an image of what one is meant to look like.

Also
and this is like a brick wall i have come across...
My Grandfather Woodrow Dale Kelly born in Pennsylvania 1902 married Nellie Irene Johnson who both are in the 1930 census, shortly after that they parted company,  What i can't find is anything to do with Woodrow after this time. Can anybody help with this at all?

Thank you
HERO :-))

Perhaps when the 1940 census comes out in 2012, it will give you a clue as to his whereabouts.

Hello
I had just hoped that i may have had an Image of a birth cert in Virginia of 1962, just to compare to the i have in my folder. The one i have is of a family member and has been told it is not worth the paper it is on.
I have spoken to a couple of people about this and one person said it should be in 2 parts, that being one from the Hospital of birth and the other part being from the Commonwealth State of Virginia, The other person said it should be in 3 parts but did not say anymore about it. Please help if you can.

Hi Hero

The problem might be that few people would have such a recent certificate unless they or a very close relative was born there. Birth certificates in Virginia are not public records until 100 years after the birth. Only immediate family members can get a copy. that doesn't include Aunts, Uncles, Cousins etc.

Looking at the Virginia Gov website it would appear you get a the certificate for $12.00 from the Office of Vital Records but if you need it authenticated it costs $10.00 and is payable to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

http://www.vdh.state.va.us/Vital_Records/faq.htm

I would contact the Office of Vital Records for Virginia and talk to them.

Andy

Perhaps you'd have more success with that question on a forum that is specific to Virginia?

My husband was born in New York.  I believe his birth certificate was from the hospital and looks almost more like a diploma to me, and it's never been a problem for him.  I was born in Ohio, and my birth certificate is a form from the state with the answers typed in.  Unless you have reason to believe that the birth certificate was faked or altered or the person was adopted, I'd be inclined to believe what it says.
