where do you find pre 1800 births
« on: Tuesday 22 March 05 21:21 GMT (UK) »
How do you find births in Ireland when all I have is the fact they were born in Ireland from Scotish 1861 census.

John Reip born c1784  married Bridget Kavanagh born c1806

Johns parents were Patrick Reip & Mary Ferguson

Bridgets parents were Michael Kavanagh & Helen Mcana?

I have no idea how to start  ideas please

Try looking for Reip in the Griffiths Valuation to see which counties had Riep households. I don't think it's a common name.

is there a site with this on, google just brings up partial refs and as I have no idea which part of Ireland they came from its difficult to search.

The name Reip hasnt turned up on any of the Irish webs I have tried so far  most frustrating! :'(

Hi,

You can access the Griffiths valuation paid at otherdays.com.

The irish times ancestors site has a surname search that shows you which counties to search in and alternative spellings for your surname.
http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/index.cfm

There is an index on the wonderful hayes site but the search engine is not 100% reliable. (Google's fault not the webmaster)
