His family always regarded that he had married beneath himself


My father told me the same thing, that back in the 19th century one of his aunts had married beneath herself.  Like yours, her father and family all had their own businesses too.  When I came across the hapless groom I discovered he was the head gardener at a hospital.  Like his in-laws he would have had a seven year apprenticeship but I'm presuming the drawback was he didn't own his own business.

10 years later on than 1901 they are indeed in Faringdon- dad Arthur Edgar is a hairdresser,but young Arthur W is not at home  ;D

Parents had been married 18 years,so approx 1893  :o

Have you tried looking them up yourself(it's very satisfying to find them yourself) on the free website http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ it's not complete yet so read the breakdown as to how far forward they are. Most of the records are at least up to 1920's now- some a lot further.

If you are still stuck then you may need one of us with a subscription to a more complete index to help you.

I have tried free bmd but have not been able to find when Arthur Edgar Looker  or his wife died or where. Nor have I been able to find Arthur`s mothers name when they got married or when they died.

Can any one tell me when Arthur Edgar Looker died and where also his wife Edith Harriet Looker nee Hughes. Have tried free bmd but could not find out.
