Antrim Rifle Regiment 1858

Trying to get more information on John Aicken who served with the Rifle regiment then transferred to the Royal Marines. I have been able to get some records from the Nat. Arch. site but they give no mention of home address or next of kin. On the attestation form for the Royal Marines it has the town and parish of where born, I think the town is Broughthane?? and the parish is Burknow?? are there any such places and if so are there any census records which are accessable. John stayed in England and was discharged from service in 1881.
Any suggestions as to how to find further information would be much appreciated

Place is Broughshane in Racavan Parish. Unfortunately 1st complete census for Ireland is 1901 and registration of births started in 1864 so you'd probably need church records (if they exist) to find family details.

Thanks for the information and yes I think you are right when I have a closer look at the form it is Broughshane. Are there any sites I can access to look up the church records for this area?

Thanks for the link to the resources but I have no idea which church to look at. If the information I have shows Broughshane as the Town and Bucknor as the Parish where do I start? Are there lists of churches which would have been used in these areas? Sorry for the ignorance but haven't a clue,
thanks Dee

What religion were the family? You'll need to know that to start looking at what records might be available.
CHURCH RECORDS in ANTRIM RESOURCES (link given earlier in this thread) has lists of church records at PRONI, etc.

There in lies my problem, I have no idea what religion John Aicken was. I have a marriage certificate for him in 1869 which is in Woolwich England and it is the Established Church so not much help I'm afraid.
thanks anyway, Dee
