1930 New York Census - address only?

Help!!!!  Spending loads of time trying to find a relative, Julia,  in 1930 New York census, but to no avail.  Her father leaves New Hampshire after death of his wife, goes to New York and dies in Bellevue Hospital First Avenue Manhattan in 1936.  On death, his "usual residence" was given as 1754 Third Ave. NY., - is there any way I can search through Ancestry, using address only?  Tried, but doesn't seem to work for me.  Am hoping this address might show as daughter Julia's residence, as she "lived in New York for many years"....  Any advice anyone?  not sure if ancestry will work for me, using address only  - without name... as Julia's full name (Married to ?Boule).. does not give me any relevant hits....  Cheers

Hi Shelley, I have had a look at the website links you gave, but must admit to being quite confused by them.  I think it will take me quite some time to figure out the procedure.  Therefore I would be delighted if someone with more understanding could help!!!

My aim is to find Julia Boule (ms. McDonald) in the 1930 New York census.  She was born in July 1888, in Manchester New Hampshire, but is said to have married ? Boule, and spent many years in New York.  I have just obtained the death cert. for her father James McDonald (born 1858 in Glasgow Scotland) - He lived in Manchester NH (and was there for 1930 census) but  died in Bellevue Hospital New York,  on 5 Jan 1936.  (We think he may have gone to NY to be with daughter? )

On his death his "Usual residence" was given as 1754 Third Ave. - which I presume is also in the Manhattan Borough, (as is the hospital where he actually died). 


I know his death is 6 years after the census, but we have done quite a thorough search for Julia Boule - and are failing to find her anywhere in the 1930 census.?  Thought that having some sort of NY address (as  is in fathers death entry) would help - but so far, getting us nowhere...

We also are fairly sure re spelling of Julia's married name as  this is how it appears on family gravestone -  she returned to Manchester  NH around 1953 and died and was buried there.
Would sure appreciate some help.

According to the groom index on www.italiangen.org, Maxwell A. Boule & Julia McDonald married on 22 Jan. 1926 in Manhattan.  On the death index on that site, a Maxwell Boule died at age 73 on 29 Jan. 1947 in the Bronx. 

There's a Maxwell A. Boule born abt. 1874 in Massachusetts on the 1920 Census in Hudson, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.  He's listed as married, but I don't see a wife with him.  I don't see him on the 1930 Census.

According to Google, the street address you mentioned is currently at Third Ave. near East 97th Street.  Using the website I linked above, I looked for the enumeration districts for those cross streets, and it gave me Enumeration Districts 31-752, 31-753, 31-796, and 31-1244.  You could try looking through those.

I just found Maxwell & Julia in 1930.  They're transcribed as Boute, but it looks like Boule with an accent over the e.  They're in Manhattan at, what appears to be, 348 East 49th Street.  Maxwell seems to fit the one I found in 1920.

Hi Shelley - sorry about the delay in replying - have had a busy day, but when I got your message - - really delighted at what you have found. I knew I was going around in circles, and getting nowhere, whereas you have jumped right in, and come up with "the goods"..... Thanks a million!

I will follow up your info, I was facing a "brick wall", now I have various avenues to pursue...  Have never used the italiangen website - also today, have just discovered the advantages of US City Directories.... Always something to learn!

Thank you very much for the link to this obit.
This sure was a "blast from the past" - have not done research on my McDonald/Michael/Boule family for a long, long time.  How did you come across the obit for Maxwell?  Are you connected in some way?  I notice the funeral director was "Hickey" - and wonder if there is a family connection... Julia McDonald's cousin (?), Arthur Michael was married to a Cora Hickey. 
All those years ago, I really enjoyed finding out the history of James McDonald, Bridget McDonald and Julia Michael - all siblings of my maternal grandmother  Rose Alice McDonald.  I am fairly sure that my father knew very little of his aunts and uncle who had migrated to the Cotton mills of Manchester New Hampshire from Glasgow Scotland - and then of course younger Julia had married Maxwell.  I am vague about New York and surrounds - Maxwell, left Hudson to be a taxi driver in New York - Must have been interesting years!!  Bet you he could tell some stories!
