Woolrigg seems to be in Lancashire, in the parish of Cartmel.

thanks Bridget, the parish is Ashkirk and the entry above has a place called Sinton  and the entry below is Gilmanscleugh (I think)

At the risk of being pedantic (!), I think is says 'Woollrigg'.

Hello,

As you know the rough area - I'd try the National Library for Scotland 6" to 1 mile maps or the site below:

www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/place_page.jsp?p_id=16907 - Cached
Selkirk Parish

Have grief at the moment as am on an oil rig and a very slow connection and I can't get the maps to open.  The vision of britain website allows you to view the parish changes over time and allows maps that you can zoom down into within that parish.

Regards,   Steve

thanks everyone for your replies. I also read the word as Woollrigg but got absolutely NOTHING when I googled the word,  which  made me think I must be wrong.  Does anyone know where I can source early farm names in the area of Ashkirk?  Steve I haven't been able to access the web page you gave me but will persevere. thanks.  :)

I found this reference to a Woolrigg in Scotland:

BORTHWICK BURIALS & MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS IN SCOTLAND ..... "In memory of James Armstrong late tenant at Rigg, died at Woolrigg 7th August 1817 aged 81
