Selena Carr, born 1894 Rhode Island - mother's details?

Hi

I can see the Carr family on the 1901 US Census in Lincoln Town, Providence, Rhode Island:

James W Carr born England Sep 1871
Eliza Carr born England Mary 1869
Selena Carr born Rhode Island May 1894
Alfred Carr born Rhode Island Nov 1896
William Carr born Rhode Island Feb 1900

Is there a way of seeing Selena's birth details (or any of the other children's) to check mother's maiden name, as we have been unable to track down the marriage in the UK, which is where I think it must have taken place?

According to the 1911 UK Census, James and Eliza have been married 19 years, ie in 1892, and the US 1901 says they arrived in 1894.

Whilst Ancestry gives me the Census, it doesn't have Rhode Island births for me to look at.

Any help much appreciated !

Ancestry has a Rhode Island births database that covers the years 1636-1930 but there is no Selena Carr listed. I couldn't find Alfred or William listed either.

There's a passenger list which has James (22, cotton operator) and Eliza (23) arriving in Boston on 17 Sep 1893 on the Bothnia. Their last residence is listed as Hyde, England and they were going to Rhode Island. It was just the two of them so it does appear that Selena was born after they emigrated.

To help confirm these are your Carr's...there are two images for the passenger list.  One shows James' age as 22 years and 11 months.  Eliza is shown as 23 years, - months.  There are 30 entries on the page, only 6 have months included with their ages.

Is James W. Carr James Willie Carr?

There is a marriage of James Willie Carr to Eliza Horsfield 3rd quarter 1891 in Stockport, Cheshire, Lancashire.

I don't have access to the 1911 UK Census and after having found a marriage for a Selena Carr in Stockport in 1917 I did a little sideways thinking that the family returned from the States back to the area where they may have originated.

Sideways is not always good......but I hope so in this case.

We have found the marriage of James Willie Carr - I had him down as James William,or James W, but as soon as I entered James Willie - the marriage popped up!

A fellow researcher and I are filling in details of this remote part of both our trees.  It's a sad story because evidently James Willie and Eliza came to US for a better life - they were cotton operatives in Hyde, near Manchester, and then came to the US and did exactly the same thing.

They returned to the UK, to Hyde, in the early part of the 20th Century, appearing in the 1911 in Hyde.

Then the eldest son, Alfred, enlisted in the army in 1915 at the age of 19 and was killed 2 years later, dying of wounds at the age of 21.

The daughter, Selena, married early in 1917, but then died 18 months later, just after the birth of a child, at the age of only 25.

My fellow researcher and I have been looking for this child, Hugh John, Walker, born in 1919, as he may have been brought up by the Carr family.

A sad story.  Thank you all so much for your help, it just ties up a few details and may assist - who knows - in finding out what happened to little Hugh John in 1919.

I was happy to see the posting about James Willie Carr.
I am attempting the Carr family tree.  Would love to know more about Hugh John Walker or the rest of the family....
James's cousin Lily came to my grandparents wedding in London in 1930.
(This makes the relationship sound a lot closer than it was as Lily was a second cousin of my greatgrandma but had married my grandmother's uncle.)
