Lucy Leigh Flavell Born 1835, Long Lawford Warks.
« on: Friday 02 April 10 18:51 BST (UK) »
The above is a cousin 2 x removed. She married a Thomas Peterkin on 18 June 1864 at the Primitive Methodist Church, Rugby, Warks. She appears on the 1871 census, with her husband and daughter Rose F. After that the husband and wife seem to disappear, as I can no longer find them on the 1881 census or 1891. I also, can find no trace of their deaths. Can anyone help identify what happened to them. I would also like to know whether they had any other children besides Rose.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Billbir,

It seems Lucy remarries in 1884 at Christ Church Camberwell - new husband is Edwin Chillman:

12 July 1884
Edwin Chillman, 47, widower, Baker, 12 Shenton St, Old Kent Rd, Father William Chillman (deceased), carpenter
Lucia Leigh Peterken, 48, widow, (same address as Edwin), Father William Flavvell, tailor

Witnesses James Ramsay and  Janet Ramsay (or Ramsery?)

Rose Flavell Peterken marries a James M(a)cPherson in Jun 1881 Camberwell. They're at RG12/484 28 50 in 1891 and RG13/1580 54 4 in 1901 (shout if you need full details)

Julie and Tati,

Thanks for your remarkably quick response to my request. Her remarriage explains why I could not find her. Thanks Tati for the info on Rose's marriage. I did, fortunately have her marriage to James MacPherson, and have tracked her family back to recent times, but her mother was a mystery.

Regards

Bill

Lucy Leigh Flavell was my GGgrandmother.  She moved to London to join her daughter (Rose Flavell Peterkin) after Rose had fallen for and eloped with James MacPherson.  James came to Coventry (with his brother Philip) after joining the army, as Coventry was a 'garrison town'.

Rose eventually returned to Brinklow with the majority of her children; the oldest had joined the army, fought in the Boer War and died at Pershawar.
