Completed - Berkshire Burial Index look-up
« on: Saturday 03 April 10 13:06 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,

I'm looking for the burials of Joseph and Martha Ann Gaze.

In 1911 they were living at 4 Adelaide Cottages, Adelaide Sq., Windsor
Joseph's death is registered in Q1 1913 Windsor RD
Martha Ann's death is registered in Q1 1928 Windsor RD

Can anyone help please?

Hi Jeannie,

Thanks for taking the time to look for me.

From what I've seen online the NBI 2nd edition CD was published in Sept 2004. Hopefully someone who has access to the Berkshire Burial Index 6th edition CD may be able to answer my question as that was published in 2008 I think.

I will however follow-up on your suggestion of contacting the cemetery.

Thanks once again,  :)

Hi Again.....

I am hoping to go to a Family History Fair on Saturday (Yorkshire )

I may treat myself to the latest NBI CD. If I do I will contact you.
At least you have been "nudged".....

The Berkshire Burial Index has reached its 8th Edition (published in Dec 2009) - this has more Berks burials and more information on the burials (where available) than the 3rd Ed NBI (it's 5 months, or around 20,000 entries ahead as the closing date for NBI submissions was around June 2009).

However, neither is likely to have the burials sought as no burial registers from the Windsor municipal cemeteries have been transferred to the Berkshire Record Office (source of almost all the records in the BBI and NBI).

The OP should see: http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/cemeteries_faq_16568.htm

Hi Newburychap,

Thanks for the info - I was just going by what is posted on the Berkshire Family History website for which parishes are included on the CD since their address in 1911 is in the parish of New Windsor.

New Windsor All Saints (recorded in register of NewWindsor St John the Baptist) 1974 - 1988
New Windsor St George’s Chapel 1625 - 1737
New Windsor St John the Baptist 1559 - 1988

Thanks to Jillruss I've just found out  - The only New Windsor church which is supposedly covered is St John The Baptist but there is a gap between 1900 and 1973.

So I will be contacting the cemeteries office to see if they can help.

I suspect there were very few burials in any of the churchyards (and there are probably more than the three so far included in the BBI) once the first municipal cemetery opened (there are, I believe, four such cemeteries these days).  Of course the burial service could be held in a church with the interrment in a cemetery following.
