Census/birth look up please
« on: Sunday 04 April 10 16:12 BST (UK) »
George Thomas Bayfield  Asher was baptised at  St Peter's Nottingham in 1815 & his brother, Samuel Lyon Asher was baptised at St Mary's 1818. I've enquired on another thread about the marriage of their parents, William & Elizabeth, but we haven't been able to find it in Nottingham. Could someone look up William on the 1841/1851 census, please.....I think he was born in Nottingham & I'm trying to find out who his parents were. I think that, on the census records, he'll be living on Queen St &/or Newcastle St in Nottingham.

Thank you

Did they have other children - Elizabeth b 1831, John b 1829, William b 1833?
In 1841 there is a family that may be yours.

William is aged 45  b 1796 Notts
Elizabeth          50 b 1791   out of county.
Three children as above.
This would make William 19 when George was born, but Elizabeth would be 24.  This could account for the Bayfield name.  Maybe this was Elizabeth's surname or she was still married to someone else, which would account for the lack of a marriage of William and Elizabeth.

All sorts of possibilities there.

1841 ref: Piece 855.  Folio 3/11   Page 14.   Front Street, Arnold.

I couldn't find a William in 1851 apart from a wrong transcription which crops up when the actual census sheet is examined.

Hope this helps.   NC.

Thank you, nc....that looks like him (Front St, Arnold, eh ?....that's a bit off the beaten track....thought they were all pretty much around the city centre) If she was "out of county" that cpould explain why we can't find a marriage.....or they might not have married at all.

The George Bayfield of the first son & the Samuel Lyon of the second son are the interesting bits, because I think William is in some way connected to Lyon Asher who was living in Nottingham from at least 1820 onwards & his wife, Elizabeth, who I think was probably Elizabeth Barefield , baptised in Titchmarsh, Northants &, indeed, of her brother, George Barefield.....I'm reliably informed that "Barefield" spoken with a Northants accent sounds like Bayfield to people from outside the county. George Barefield moved to London sometime between his baptism in Titchmarsh in 1794 & his marriage at Clerkenwell in 1820.....& I think his sister may have gone with him & they met the Ashers....newly arrived Eastern European immigrants...there...& Edlizabeth got together with/married Lyon there & they moved up to Nottingham. Not quite sure where William fits in. George Barefield stayed in London (Finsbury) for the rest of his life.

How do I get from here to finding out about Wiiliam's past.....?

It might be the same William or a different one....it's the location in Arnold that makes me think it might be a different one

Oh......or the Elizabeth married to William could have been Elizabeth Barefield....the age is approx correct (she was baptised in Northants in 1792)

Is there any way I can find out if they were the parents of George thomas Bayfield & Samurl Lyon, as well as the children found by notts chick on the census ? (Samuel Lyon was transported to Australia in 1823)
