Thank you, nc....that looks like him (Front St, Arnold, eh ?....that's a bit off the beaten track....thought they were all pretty much around the city centre) If she was "out of county" that cpould explain why we can't find a marriage.....or they might not have married at all.
The George Bayfield of the first son & the Samuel Lyon of the second son are the interesting bits, because I think William is in some way connected to Lyon Asher who was living in Nottingham from at least 1820 onwards & his wife, Elizabeth, who I think was probably Elizabeth Barefield , baptised in Titchmarsh, Northants &, indeed, of her brother, George Barefield.....I'm reliably informed that "Barefield" spoken with a Northants accent sounds like Bayfield to people from outside the county. George Barefield moved to London sometime between his baptism in Titchmarsh in 1794 & his marriage at Clerkenwell in 1820.....& I think his sister may have gone with him & they met the Ashers....newly arrived Eastern European immigrants...there...& Edlizabeth got together with/married Lyon there & they moved up to Nottingham. Not quite sure where William fits in. George Barefield stayed in London (Finsbury) for the rest of his life.
How do I get from here to finding out about Wiiliam's past.....?
