Can anyone help me.  My mother's name was Bridgid (could be another spelling) Ryan who lived (and I believe was born) in Tipperary and I want to trace her family but have only limited information.  She came from a family of brothers: Christopher and Michael and sisters: Mary, Elizabeth, Kittie (Kathleen?), Winnie (Winifred?), Maggie (Margaret?).  My mother wouldn't talk about her family (she had a very troubled life suffering from depression) and for years said she came from a family of 7 but in fact before she died told me she had a sister 'Elizabeth' who was 'put away' in her teens but wouldn't give any more information.
Her sister Winnie had a special needs child who apparently died when he 'fell over a bridge' and then she died not long afterwards.   Her sister Mary I think also suffered with mental illness (again I think lived in Tipperary) and her brothers Christopher and Michael along with my mother came over to the UK and resided there prior to the war.

Can anyone help me trace - in particular Elizabeth who was put into an institution?

Welcome to Rootschat. This isn't a forum for tracing living people but there are some online resources which might help.
Latest available census is 1911 so if any of your relatives was alive then you can search for them in it-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Index to civil registration of births is alos online free and you can search there also. Your mother's birth certificate will list exact date and place of birth as well as both parents (unless illegitimate in which case only mother will be listed). If your mother married in England the certificate should hopefull list her father's name and occupation.

Unfortunately, Ryan is a very common surname in Ireland and it may be difficult to find the correct people in records without more details like where they live (townland or street).

If anyone can help with recent family details please do so by PM (personaal message) rather than on this thread.
