Can anyone identify this Badge?
« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 14:50 BST (UK) »
 :)Hello

My Grandad fought in World War Two,he was in Burma, however died two years ago, which is why I am asking for help!!

In the tin that he kept his medals and papers in was a badge,a sew on arm badge - I'd like to know what it is.
I have cropped it from a photo I took,so I hope the quality is okay!
Any ideas?

There is interesting symbolism here: the Red Rose of Lancashire with a double set of five leaves representing the double five of 55. The Divisional vehicle marking did not include the stem and the leaves, and was confined to the Lancashire rose, but again here too the five motif was repeated. T. At the beginning of the war 55th Division was a First Line Territorial Infantry Division. In January 1942 it was placed on lower establishment. On 14 December Divisional HQ was redesignated HQ Lines of Communication (64th Division) and the division ceased to exist. Throughout that period it was in the UK.

Hello gortonboy, :)

thank you so much for your quick reply - and for the information, really great to now know what the badge is.

Grandad was in the South Staffs Regiment from 1942-1944,then the 2nd Worcestershire Regiment from 1944-1947 - I don't know how he came about having this badge amongst his army stuff, perhaps it was a friends?Something that I'll never know, but thank you for solving something that has bugged us for ages!
