McAlister in Ardboley Antrim
« on: Friday 09 April 10 01:13 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I've exhausted my ancestory.com search online and need some help with finding McAlister's in the Ardboley near Carrickfergus/Middle Division.

The Information I have so far is as follows

- James McAlister (b.1828) married Helena Caldwell (b.1832) married at Raloo Presbyterian Church on September 23, 1854
- James' Father was Andrew McAlister (d. 1872) in Ardboley.
- Ulster Society paid investigation suggested that siblings of Andrew McAlister were Alexander McAlister and Nathaniel

That's it and then I'm stuck! Any hope would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Andrew McCallister

Thank-you very much. I had the Andrew McAllister will from Feb 28, 1872 from the research the Ulster Society did for me but I didn't realize it was also online. I can now use that to find out more information like you did.

Any ideas on how to find out who Andrew's parents were? The Irish side of the family is proving extremely difficult.

Andrew

Your only hope of finding any early details about Andrew McAlister is probably church records (if they exist) but early marriages rarely list much detail- usually date, bride, groom.

- Ulster Society paid investigation suggested that siblings of Andrew McAlister were Alexander McAlister and Nathaniel
Don't know who 'Ulster Society' is but would be suspicious of linking Andrew McAlister to any siblings without some sort of proof (not just because they are roughly the same age and in the same place).

Thanks again.

The research was done by Ulsterancestory.com. Is there anyone you would recommend to continue to search. It seems from her on out you almost need to be there.

I was also wondering where did Presbyterians of that area go to before the Raloo church was built?

Kind Regards,
Andrew

Raloo Presbyterian Church congregation was formed secretly in 1673 and officially in 1838.

Do you know the best way to access the raloo church records? Is this something that can be done online or do you have to go to the PRONI?
