Look-up request - Locke Frost marriage Ticehurst

Hi everyone

I was wondering if someone could help with this?

I have found a record for Brownlow Locke marrying an Ann Frost in Eridge Green (Ticehurst district) on 24th November 1867.  Following their marriage she turns up on the census as Mary A and with a variety of birthplaces so I'm having a hard time working out where she comes from prior to her marriage. Could anyone get me a copy of their marriage record in the parish register or suggest where I could get more information?

Where did you find their marriage details?

To lookup a marriage in parish records you have to know which church the marriage took place in

What bothers me is that they married in 1867 but first child was not born until 1876/77 so I wonder if it is Ann Frost on the 1881/1891 census

Can't find them in 1871 at the moment

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've got the details from two sources - IGI which gave Chapelry of Elridge Green (CofE) as the source, and the marriage index which gives them as being married in the last quarter of 1867 in Ticehurst.

There is a big gap before the children - they did move about a bit (they're in Barrow in Furness in 1881) but it could be that he remarried and Mary is someone else. Brownlow is in the Surry/Sussex area in the 1861 census but I need some more information to verify who she is. I've not been able to find them in 1871 either but the spellings of Brownlow vary so much across the years its really difficult!

Apologies - I had tried the IGI but stupidly searched on Kent instead of Sussex so no wonder I didn't find the marriage!!

Brownlow died in 1898 and I can't find "Ann" in 1901 at the moment

There's no second marriage shown on freebmd so I am wondering if possibly they were just co-habiting

I can't find her in 1901 either. I think she died in 1910 as there is a Mary Ann Locke registered in Prescot at the age of 61 which would be right. Her sons had all moved to that area so it would tie in. My other thought was that it is possible she was either known as Mary Ann and thats how she is captured in the census while Ann was her registered name, or that the marriage entry is incorrect and it should be Mary Ann Frost not just Ann. I thought if I could find the marriage entry it might help to get to the bottom of it.

Did you get anywhere with this search?
I think Ann Frost was born in Ulverston, Lancashire (as was, now in Cumbria), Ann and Brownlow Locke are my great great grandparents.
It would be great to hear from you.
