Looking for info in Ireland (parents?) on Patrick Barrett and wife Mary ?, who came to Canada in 1825 on the  ship Resolution, settled in Ontario.  Believed to be from Cork.
Anyone know of this family?  He was born circa 1826 according to Ontario census.  Thanks for any help.

Hello Joker
Your post is slightly confusing .. came to Canada 1825, born 1826? Do you mean married 1826?
I hate to say but I think you're looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack!
Barrett is an extremely common name in Ireland & with a first name Patrick and wife Mary you have thrown in two of the most common first names also. Without at least a maiden name for Mary you'll find it impossible to find them.
Civil registration didn't start until 1864 (1845 non-catholic marriages) so you are dependant on church records. Church records don't go further back than the early 1800s in most cases. The only records for Cork online at present are those covering north & east Cork although there are more coming online this year which will hopefully cover most of the remaining areas see www.irish-roots for what's available.
A quick search on that site throws up 3 birth matches in those areas between 1795 & 1805. Can you search Canadian records for more clues?

Gee, even I'm confused by that post.  Sorry!  Patrick Barrett  was born in Ireland, and  was noted as "father"  on the death of his son William Barrett (born 1850, died Sep 28, 1927 Emily Twp, Victoria Co. Ontario..   Patrick's wife was Mary ???  cause she is shown as living with William's family on the 1891 census as 77 years old (thus born circa 1814, Ireland)....I cannot find either of them on any Ontario Census other than that one with Mary.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to respond (and to set me straight) That'll teach me to work so late!

Library and Archives Canada have the 1851 Census for free, here is Patrick, Mary, William and Johanna living in Emily in Victoria County.  Patrick and Mary say they are born in Upper Canada though  :-\

The Ship Resolution, was part of the Peter Robinson Settlers Program.  There was a William Barrett and family on that ship.

William states on the passenger list he is from Kilworth, Cork.  His wife is Johanna.

I think William and Johanna are Patrick's parents...Patrick's first 2 children and William and Johanna.  Since the ship arrived June 25, 1825 and Patrick was born 1826 that's why he lists Upper Canada as his place of birth on the 1851

We must have been working together on this. lol.  Just found this info out last night. Can't figure out why they put
Johanna (senior) as the wife...unless her name was Mary Johanna, because everywhere else she is Mary.  Oh well.
Thanks so much for your input on this.  I was at a dead loss about it.

Hi Karen: you said:  think William and JOHANNA are Patrick's parents...Patrick's first 2 children and William and Johanna.  Since the ship arrived June 25, 1825 and Patrick was born 1826 that's why he lists Upper Canada as his place of birth on the 1851"
According to the Ontario Census... Patrick's wife is Mary.  I later, from kids marriages....found out her surname is Fanning.
Census:  on the 1851 Census (completed in 1852, Emily Twp),  Patrick, working as a  24 year old, born Upper Canada, along with his wife, Mary, 30 also born UC, working as servants for the Thomas McCarty family in Emily Twp.  Two children are with them, William age 2, and Johana age 1.

In 1861,  Patrick is a  35 year old  laborer, born  Upper Canada.....living in a Log, 1 story house, with his wife Mary 40, born Ireland, and children William 11, Johanna 9, Edward 8, Catherine 7 and Mary 7.  Roman Catholic religion.  Emily Twp. Victoria Co. (Not sure why it shows his place of birth as  Upper Canada, then the next 2 censuses as born in Ireland.  )

By 1871  of Emily Twp, Victoria Co. OntarioCensus, Patrick is now a 45 year old laborer born in Ireland.   His wife, Mary is 40, also born Ireland., along with their Ontario born children: William 19, Joanna 18, Edward 16, Mary 13, and Catherine 12. They are all Roman Catholic.  There is a note on this one that he died April 21st., presumably  in 1871.....because the census that year was done on April 2, 1871....the registrar likely went back in to adjust the records.

So where did the  JOHANNA --wife of Patrick, come from?  Sorry, I just like to prove everything.
