I think the photos were taken on the same day: you can see the lady's white apron quite clearly, and the dog is in both of them!

I think I might have misunderstood Jim's post. Even though the woman in the first photo was dressed in 1880's fashion she could have been wearing the same dress years later.  If the photo is late 1880's to early 1890's that means it can't be me great great grandmother as she died March 1885 :'( I thought she might have been the mother of the man.

The second photo, I thought, had the first 3 people, the middle having removed her jacket and the man standing at the back holding a couple of children. Plus a young boy and a fashionable looking woman (maybe their daughter). The photo is a bit too far away to identify people, and as their is no photographers name it would be hard to date. I think Jim is looking at the dress of the new woman for dating and is pretty good with his dating :)

Thank you Carolyn, here's a little colour for the cottage.   Lois your eyes are much better than mine, I can't make out the people that well.

Bill.  :)

Hi Bill

Thanks so much for taking the time to colour the other photo as well. Again a great job :)

My ancestors lived there for over 30 years.

Much appreciated.

Lois

You are welcome Lois, we have no choice but see our ancestors in black and white, colour seems to bring them and their surroundings to life.

Hello Terry

Firstly you are not late at all. The board is very busy at the moment, and there is no rush at all. I don't think you have done a colour  for me before and I appreciate your time.

Thank you so much for both the restores. I  notice the roof looks like slate and you have the man in the other one leaning against the wall.  I was beginning to think I was seeing a ghost :)
