when was Abraham Paul Born *COMPLETED*

I have a record that Abraham Paul married Ethel May Shepherd in 1915. I can not find his birth in NZ. He may have had the surname Pora as that was later used on Ethels  certificate from her second marriage and she was listed as a widow. That was in 1924 but in England as she had travelled back there presumable after the death of her husband.
It could be that Abraham Paul is an englishised version of a maori name. Any help appreciated.

I think the maori version of his name Abraham Paul would be Aperahama Paora,Pora may be Cook Island maori

Maori registrations were not required at this time so hence why you may not find a rego

What area did he live/they marry
What was his age at death, to eliminate some names..also to give you family info

There is an Abraham Paul 21/5/1894 from school records northern wairoa area

Unsure of anything apart from his name on the wedding certificate. I didnt realise that maori registrations were not required. Thanks for the translation Janette. I will look at Paora as a start.

army records info - this gives an address for Ethel in 1917, Abraham's occupation (Sawmill hand), and shows that he was part of the Maori Contingent (22nd reinforcements)

The divorce file was indeed a good find.      It is though, dated 1925.        And you say Ethel re-married as a widow in 1924 ?

(Well maybe there is nothing "untoward" - the decree absolute could well have been handed down in say, late 1924 ... and because the parties lived on opposite sides of the world, there may have been delays with correspondence which meant the file wasn't closed until 1925. )

There is just the one death of an "Abraham PAUL" showing in NZ (up to 1990) -- indicating a birth year of c. 1892.

1951 / 36523 - PAUL - Abraham - 59 years  (bc 1892)
