1841 census missing pages
« on: Monday 12 April 10 16:17 BST (UK) »
I've been looking for a James Lowden born circa 1835 but I can't find him anywhere on the 1841 census. His mother was called Ann (a widow on the 1851) and she was born in Great Clifton. On the 1851 Ann with sons James age 16 and William age 11 both born Whitehaven are living in Great Broughton with relatives but there is no sign of any of them on the 1841. I was wondering if there are any pages missing from the census?

Mags.

Hi Mags

I've had a look and cant find anything.  The 1851 census shows Ann as born in Whitehaven, its the line above that says Great Clifton.  It looks like William the younger son was born in Alston.  Maybe they were still in Alston in 1841, not that makes them any easier to find.  Possibly mistranscribed? or if they were miners living in another part of the country maybe the north east?

Hi Julie

It's really odd that I can't find the family on the 1841. Maybe the name has been transcribed wrong as you say or the enumerator spelt it wrong. I'll have a look later.

Thanks

Mags
