St George's Hanover Square Marriage
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 18:28 BST (UK) »
Hi, is anyone going to Westminster Archives and would do a search for me please?

Looking for marriage of Ann Bushnell to Thomas Trickey Davies in the March quarter 1873.

Any info found would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Christine

St Georges Hanover Square in this instance is the registration district, not just the church, and comprises many parishes

http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Westminster/churches.htm

The marriage may have taken place at any one of the churches or even the register office.

Unless you can narrow the search down, it may be quicker and easier to purchase the marriage certificate from the GRO.

I must add an amusing find in an Ancestry Tree.

They have found their ancestor having been born in 'St. Georges, Hanover Square' and not realising that this is a registration district have stated that their Ancestor was born in Hanover Square.  I was tempted to let them know, but was laughing too much.

I do feel sorry for those who are not conversant with London geography.  It must be so confusing, with parish boundaries moving around.  Parts of London being in Surrey, Middlesex & Essex.

But even today I will often shout at the telly & radio when they move parts of London from one side of the river to the other.  If ever a city was divided London is the one.  I can often tell when a person speaks what side of the river they come from.

Sell (Herts/Essex/W. London)
