Emil & Luise - Missing in 1891
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 20:03 BST (UK) »
Emil Haase and Luise Bühl, both born in Germany, married by banns on 30 April 1891 at St Georges Church, Battersea. Their address on the marriage certificate is 4 Currie Street, Wandsworth.

On the 1891 census, this is the address of one of the witnesses to their wedding, Peter Mechlet (Midster on A*****y), but they are not shown on the census at that address.

As the wedding was by Banns, I would have expected them to be nearby on census night, so where were they?

What makes it harder are the endless possibilities for mis-transcribing either of their surnames. (A****y has the wedding as Hoose and Bahl)???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If that's the right family, the Emile I found in 1891 is too young.   :(

The family in 1901 are the right ones.

Luise was born in 1868 and Emil in 1866. The info I have from the Anglo-German FHS suggests that  Luise was born in Kunzelsau, Wurttenburg. I d on't know where in Germany Emil was born.

Emil's full name is Emil August Wilhelm and Luise's is Luise Eleanora Charlote Magdalen Bühl. Neither of them are on Family Search either.

To add to the confusion, Emil's mother Christiane only appears in the 1901 census and I can't find a death for her.

By 1905, Emil had left Luise and apparently worked his passage to America, not entering through Ellis Island.

Thanks for looking,

Bob.

Hi,

g eli,  Yes I have got that info. Adolph was my grandfather. Harry has no father on his    birth certificate - Emil had left by then. The rumour is that Luise was more than just a housekeeper. On Harry's marriage certificate, Emil is entered as his father.

Heywood,   Emil's father was Karl Haase and Louise's was Ludwig Bühl.
