Deaths - McLaren
« on: Friday 16 April 10 11:21 BST (UK) »
May have posted this before, but am still searching.

Death for John McLaren dob c1799 Callander.
Death for James McLaren dob 1801 Callander.

Both were with their sister Margaret Ferguson m.s. McLaren at Rednock Mill, Port of Monteith, John in 1851 and James in 1871.

Parents Archibald McLaren and Hellen McQueen.

The only one that pops up on SP is for a James who died in 1877..but wrong mother (Jane Stewart)

Have tried every which way and having no success at all..

Can anyone help please.

As always...Patvp

Thanks Gordon - Yes I do have the births of the childre - from SP records James was born 22 May 1799 and John 28 Oct 1797 both in Callander, it is their deaths that have got me stumped..have tried all I know..thought someone else may have some ideas.

Hi Patvp1

Your post caught my eye and since we live in the area hubby and I went to Port of Menteith old cemetery for a wee look. The old cemetery is very small but is in a lovely location, the only MI we found that may or may not be connected is
Sacred
to the memory of
Catherine Feguson
my mother
who died at Rednock Mill
16 Jan 1901 aged 81
John Strang
late of Milton Cottage,Cardross
died at Redgatehill,Kippen
26 Aug 1951
we then went to Callander old cemetery and found three headstones side by side, the first I know you will be interested in the others not so sure.

1.ERECTED
by ARCHd McLaren
in memory of his wife
Hellen McQueen
who died 29th May 1829
aged 57years

hubby took a photo

2.ERECTED By Arch McLaren
in memory
of his sister Helen
who died July 1840
aged 5years and 9 months
his brother John
who died Sep 1852 aged 5months
his sister Catherine who died
at Inverkip,Renfrewshire
25th May 1869 aged 25

another photo taken

3. top of headstone broken off
Jame--------son
coal merchant
who died 6th March 1891
aged 87yrs
and his wife
Agnes McLaren
who died 22 March 1881
aged 75years
also their Grandchildren
Marion Adams
who died 6th Oct 1890 aged 10years
and
Annie Adams
who died 6th Sep 1873
Agnes Adams
who died 30th March 1879
both in infancy

and another photo

I am not sure how to attach a photo to this post,if you are willing to send me your email by PM I will be able to send photo's.

Hi Fiona - This has opened up a whole new can of worms.. ;D ;D ;D
Especially with Catherine Ferguson and John Strang.  Have Catherines death cert (illegitimate) parents supposedly John Ferguson and Mary McGregor..but am not sure of that as can find nothing on SP.
In 1851 John is listed with Elizabeth and Catherine Ferguson (sisters) as being "nieces son" ??? they both are daughters of Daniel Ferguson and Marrian Ferguson, their brother Daniel c1801 married Margaret McLaren (my link).

Poor old John Strang (have death cert) died without kith or kin he was single and no parents listed on death cert..info given by undertaker  :'(

Have sent you a PM so will look forward to seeing photo's etc.

Now had a headache trying to sort all this out.. :o

Best regards Patvp

Hi Patvp1

4 more MI's from Old Cemetery at Callander, hope they fit in or help other Rootschatters

1.In Memory of
Duncan MacLaren
of Bracklinn
died 8th Dec 1905

2.SACRED
to the memory of
Peter McLaren
who died 27 Dec 1816
and Christian Dochart,his spouse
who died 8th April 1830
also their son
Donald McLaren,of Dullater
who died 6th Aug 1854
and
of his daughter
Mary McLaren
who died 16 July 1888
THIS TABLET IS ERECTED
BY THE FREE CHURCH CALLANDER
AS A TRIBUTE OF RESPECT
TO THE MEMORY
AND FOR THE CHRISTIAN WORTH OF
MARY MCLAREN
"BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD"
THE NAME OF HER ANCESTORS ARE RECORDED
AS ON A FORMER TABLET.
(this tablet is mounted on the cemetery wall, also one of the photos sent to you)

3.In Memory
of Peter Fergusson
Feur,Callander
who died 23 April 1861
aged 66years
also
Christina McLaren,his wife
who died 19th Dec 1876
Alexander Fergusson
their second son
died 11th June 1905
and is interred in the New Cemetery.

4.In Memory of
Margaret Gillies
wife of George McLaren
who died 12th Jan 1868
aged 48
George McLaren
born 22 Dec 1824
died 31 March 1886.

so still no sign of your James or John McLaren, from your original post in Port of Monteith or Callander Old cemetery but that is not to say they are not there as there are quite a number of illegible weathered/collapsed stones or possible they could be in unmarked graves.
