North Dublin Union Workhouse - Look-up Please
« on: Friday 16 April 10 12:18 BST (UK) »
Is there SKS who might be visiting the Nationa Archives in the next few weeks who would be willing to do a look-up for me in the records for the North Dublin Union Workhouse? An email from the NAI confirms that they have

quote
"Minutes of the Board of Guardians, registers of admissions to and discharges from the workhouse etc., 1840 - 1920."
unquote

It's a bit of a stretch, but I am looking to see if my gt grandfather Francis MAGEE might have been a patient there from about 1874 when his youngest daughter was born until his death on 26 May 1877. The family was living at 1 Grahams Cottages, Monk's Place at the time of his death and he died from 'Consumption - 18 months' according to his death certificate.

Many thanks

Hi - I looked up Find My Past for you and there doesn't seem to be any record of a Francis Magee in the NDW.
There is a Francis Magee who lived on Fleet Street who was a shoemaker there in 1889 and a Francis magee born there in 1896.
I checked under the female spelling too just ot be sure but there is nothing.

My great grandfathers death certificate states that he died in the North Dublin workhouse
in 1923. Does anyone know what the criteria was for being accepted.  I'm assuming he was there
to obtain medical aid rather than being abandoned by his family.  His wife was still alive and his adult children (my grandfather).  They are all buried in Kilbarrack cemetary not a paupers grave. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
