Dunkeld Army School 1925issh
« on: Friday 16 April 10 21:45 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with info about a school for children c1925 -1930.  Our Uncle Frankie was sent from Edinburgh to  a school in Dunkeld for sons of men who fought in WW1.  Frankies father died after WW1 from wounds that he sustained whilst in France.  Him and his younger brother were both sent there as young children.  Unfortunately both uncles have died and we cannot get more info.

Any info or pointers would be great.

Regards,
Lynda

Hi Lynda
Silly question are you sure it was Dunkeld and not Dunblane.

The proposal was warmly received by Queen Victoria herself, and upon her death the following year, it was resolved that the School should serve the dual purpose of commemorating the dead servicemen as well as being a living memorial to the late Empress. To this end money was raised in a national effort which captivated the imagination of the Scottish public. For example, every Serviceman donated a day's pay, and an appeal for contributions from the Scottish workforce received a generous response. Work began in earnest, and Queen Victoria School was officially opened on 28 September 1908 by His Majesty King Edward VII.

Thank you Bruce.  Yes I did mean Dunblane.  Do you think if I emailed them they may give me info on our 2 old uncles?  Looks very 'posh'.

Regards and thank you,
Lynda

Well now, I  was thinking of making contact as I have their fathers army number and where he fought in France...we were just havig a wee giggle trying to work out if Uncle Frankie, (who by the way was an army boxing champion) had to wear a kilt...he was all of 4'6 when fully grown... I think it may be worth while.

Thank you,
Lynda
