Caroline Langstaff
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 19:57 BST (UK) »
I am going to post this in the Dublin forum because it's the only information I am sure of.

My great great great grandfather, Michael Coyne, married a woman named Carolin Langstaff on the 27th of December 1852 in St. Pauls. No ages, addresses or parents are recorded, just the two witnesses, 'Joseph Fegan' and 'Eliza Nicholas'.

I found the cert on the Irish Family History Foundation site but I can't find the marriage registered with the Civil Registration Index. So does this mean the information was just scribbled down in the church but never registered?

The rumour from a distant relative is that this woman came from France but with only a name, and no region, apparently I can't search French records. I think this might be the end for Caroline in my tree :( I have posted this information on a few sites but no luck. If anyone can think of anything I can try I'd love to hear from you!

Civil registration of Catholic marriages began in 1864 so if St. Paul's is a Catholic Church there will be no civil marriage certificate.
There are several records about Caroline Langstaff on this site including baptism of a daughter Anne Cathe[rine] in 1856:

Thanks!

I knew about Anne, and I have other children's details as well but seeing Caroline as a sponsor in 1842 is something. I can see there were numerous Langstaff's from Ireland but no other sign of Caroline.

The St. Pauls on the IFHF website refers to the St. Paul's RC church, Arran quay. So there would not be a civil marriage record.

Probably worth mentioning that in November of the following year, 1853, a woman named Elizabeth Langstaff was married in St. Pauls. Again, no parents listed.

Could possibly be a sister or something?  ???

And thanks Shane!

Dara.

Corrected. Sorry!

Alicat
Does the following make the plot thicken All the following is taken from The Irish Times
At Nos.33 & 38 Stephens Green the spelling was always Longstaff and while I have no direct reference to Elizabeth or Carolin, the following caught my eye:
3/9/1885 P.1 Death Rev. James Hemery Jauvrin  at No.33
31/12/1867 P.1 Advert.  Madame Launay  Professor of French etc.  at No.38
