FERRIER'S of Dundee, Angus
« on: Friday 25 March 05 00:38 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on JOHN FERRIER born March 13, 1725/26 in Angus.  He married Susannah Scott  January 6, 1757.

John and Susannah had the following children:
James 1757; John 1759; Alexander 1761; David 1763-1772; William 1765; Patrick 1768; George 1770; David 1773; and Jean 1777.  There are possibly more children.

Any information on John's parents, siblings or his children would be greatly appreciated.

Happy searching, Ontchick  :)

I notice on the IGI the first child James was born in Barry, Angus. There is a John Ferrier (father James, mother Ann Foxe) baptised 20 Feb 1729 also from Angus. Naming a first child after the paternal grandfather is very common in 17,1800s in Scotland. Shame there isn't a 2nd daughter, she would thus be called Ann, if this is the correct John.

IGI Batch C112742

Trish

There are lots of submitted records for this family on the IGI. Could be worth checking the ancestral file - you may find some other researchers to contact.

I have info on some Ferriers of Dundee.

Gibson Ferrier married/banns my 4G Aunt, Elizabeth Meldrum, 27 JUN 1839 Ferry Port On Craig, Fife, Scotland and Dundee, Angus. I don't know who his parents were but Gibson and Eliza had 4 children - John, Thomas, Gibson and Eliza Pirie Ferrier.

Let me know if they are part of your Ferriers, I have a little bit on their descendants.

regards,

Lindsay

I am researching into Mary Ferrier, who I beleive was born in 1856 in Dundee. Her parents were George and Elizabeth Ferrier (nee Stewart)
