Whitemoor Baptist Church
« on: Tuesday 20 April 10 13:20 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if this church still exists? I assume it used to be in Whitemoor but that area has vanished or so I believe.
My mother and her family going far back to the mid 1800s used to go to this church. Was it in Whitemoor or was/is it somewhere else? Does anyone know?

The Whitemoor Baptist church certainly existed at Bobbers Mill when we left the sub-postoffice there in 1972. What may be of interest was that adjacent to the church was a row of hosiery workers cottages. I believe they had one continuous room above the living quarters which had windows for letting in the light for working the hosiery or silk machines. This room was used at one time as a chapel and may pre-date the Baptist Church.

Hi,
Whitemoor still exists & the church is going strong.  Officially it was previously Marlow Memorial Baptist Church.  It has recently joined another local church & is now New Whitemoor Baptist Church and the church building has a makeover.  It is on Whitemoor Avenue and the postcode is NG8 5BQ.

Hi Jo, pleased the chapel is still going on, my son went to sunday school there in the 1960s. Did not know it was the Marlow Memorial Baptist Chapel. In our day in Bobbers Mill there was a Marlow's shop close to the sub-postoffice.I believe it was a hardware shop.
