Accident 1874 in Stirling
« on: Friday 23 April 10 18:32 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out what happened to a Peter Ferguson?
He was age 28 and an engine driver. He was married to Elizabeth
Robertson. It says that the cause of death was an accident and was certified by Mrs L. Moodie, surgeon. He died on 22nd April 1874 in Middle Craig in Stirling. His parents were Malcolm Ferguson and Mary McMillan.

I was over at Stirling Old Cemetery today and found the headstone referring to Peter Ferguson. It said he died on 22nd April 1874, age 27. Also in the grave are his wife who was a Margaret Robertson. Margaret died on 11th October 1906, age 64. Also buried in the same lair is Peter Ferguson, Grandson. He died on 12th April 1912, age 19.

Did a computer hunt and recovered the photos of Peter Ferguson's headstone that I took in April of last year.

I remember taking the shot just on the off-chance that Peter just might be one of my lot.

Not much help as you have already visited the site yourself.
But here they are anyway.

Cheers.

Thanks Fergie38,

yes I got the photo of that stone. I was wondering if you managed to get a photo of the stone containing Jeanie Ferguson, Malcolm Ferguson plus a few others in the lair including Mary McMillan? As the pic I took didn't come out too well.

Afraid not Wilton.
Deleted lots of photos of stones once I found that they had no connection with my branch of the family.

Cheers.

Pity about that Fergie 38 as the writing isn't as clear as the photo produced by yourself. This other stone seems to have writing on a marble background and is a bit more difficult to read.

The writing on the stone reads as follows:-
Jeanie Ferguson died 27 May 1870 age 16
Peter Ferguson died 22 April 1874 age 27
John Ferguson died 1876 age 27
Archie Ferguson died 1877 age 35
Father Malcolm Ferguson died 6 September 1896 age 84
Mother Mary McMillan died April 1910 age either 95 or 98
Christina Ferguson Thomson, Grand daughter died 1946 age 75
What seems unusual is that Peter Ferguson who had the accident in 1874 is mentioned on both headstones.
