William ESKHOLME c 1835
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 14:28 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate help in finding birth details, hopefully baptism and parents. for William Eskholme c1835.
Tracking back through the census records I  can find a William Eskholm born 1834/5 at Hartwith in the 1881,1891 and 1901 census. Haven't found a  1871 record.  The 1861 record for a William  Eskholme, details the birth place as New Rotherham,New York.  The 1851 record says Rotherham was the birthplace.
All the census records focus the birth to 1834 /5 and an occupation in the brass industry.
Regards
Norman

Hi

Have a look at the 1841 entry for William ESKHOLER aged 7 parents Richard and Mary.  Family were living in Kirkby Malzeard

It's a poor image so difficult to determine correct spelling.

Do you have a copy of his marriage cert showing his fathers name and occupation?

In 1851 he was living with his brother George aged 30 who was born in Whitehaven Cumberland

Hi

There are a few "ifs" on this one.  In 1861 he is married with a wife called Mary A b Selby Yorks and a daughter Emily aged 1 but there are 2 William Eskholme marriages both in the December qtr 1858 - neither of them in Rotherham

In this entry she is Mary A but in the Sheffield entry it's just Mary

Marriages December qtr 1858

William  Eskholme    Doncaster  9c 685
Mary Ann Seymour

The marriage has been transcribed on YorkshireBMD but shows Doncaster Registry Office - no church

Haven't found a  1871 record

He is mistranscribed as William Eskhdme   RG10 Piece 4703 Folio 118 Page 17

I am still trying to fully resolve my William Eskholme 1835 story. I'm sure your 1841 reference to the family is correct. What I cant resolve is the sheets location. I know the sheet is poor quality but Kirkby Malzeard  seems too long for the printing shown. Added to this, if you research the last child shown, Mary Ann, a Mary Ann Eskholme is registered at Pately Bridge in Dec 1839.  Hartwith the birth place of William in later census records is in this district.  I have always struggled with Enumerator reference sheet reference numbers and this with the poor quality of the original sheet did not get me to the description of the Enumeratord District.
Your advice and possibly help would be appreciated

Will you kindly disregard my previous message. I have now realised I had the information in front of me and Kirkby Malzeard is the correct location.
As it was the middle of the night that can be my excuse for talking piffle.
Kindest Regards
Norman
