Can anyone tell me who holds the older newspapers 1939 for Chester City.My Grandads sister died that year age 79.
 Last known address was weaverham,I have never enquired anywhere about  a look-up or obituary because I think it would be expensive.I might give it a go though because i would hope to find out where she is buried.Her Husband & son died before her.

Hello Celia,

These can be found in the Cheshire Record Office, Chester Library and the Chester History and Heritage Centre on Bridge St Row.

There were a number of local papers in those days but the main ones were the Cheshire Observer and Chester Chronicle.

I am not sure if these covered Weaverham though. I think the Chester Chronicle had more coverage of the "county" news in those days.

Thank you Jo,Thing is I don't know the month she died  that is necessary when  searching newspapers,without sending for a death cert .Which I don't really want to do to enable me to do that. The death cert have gone up now,I will have to have a think about what to do

Hello, Weaverham is more likely to be covered in the Northwich Guardian or Chronicle.   The Cheshire Archives and Record Office hold microfilms of these papers.  You will however need to check with them if they have the years you require.

Celia, I just remembered something which may help.  Weverham Church has a list of graves on their website at the following link:
http://www.stmarysweaverham.org/
Click on the resources link on the left, scroll down the page to Graves and you may be lucky.  There are some fairly modern burials on this site, so 1939 may be on there.  Let us know if you find her.

Yes I have that site in my favourits it was suggested (By the site) that it was best to down the burials because it is a very large list .They were not kidding so I didn't download it There are Hignetts on the list but I haven't got down to any 1900 yet.Another Mile should do it
