Susannah Davis Dax, Sedgley
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 22:50 BST (UK) »
In 1868, Joseph Jones m Susannah Davis Dax in Birmingham. The censuses in 1871 and 1881 show them with their growing family in Cosely (1871) and Sedgley (1881); Susannah's y.o.b was around 1843 and birthplace, Sedgely. She died before the 1891 census (probably in 1888).

Susannah is named as "neice" and informant on the death certificate of one Isaac Clark who died aged 68 in 1879. Isaac was also from Cosely and many years before had married Elizabeth Aston (so far as I know!) so no Davies or Dax names there!

I cannot find Susannah before her marraige to Joseph. Can anyone help? If possible, I want to find out how she was related to Isaac.

Thanks :)

I found this Susannah Davies in Ettingshall Sedgley 1851:-
Edward Davies 1803 Miner All born Sedgley
Sarah Wife 1803
John Son 1828
William Son 1833
Thomas Son 1835
Benjamin Son 1837
Mary DA 1841
Susannah DA 1843
Joseph Son 1846

Do you have Susannah's Marriage Certificate to Joseph Jones, that will give you her father's name and any Witnesses etc.  Linell.

And then her birth cert - to get mums maiden name. If her mum was a sister to either Isaac Clark or to Elizabeth Aston, then Susan would be niece to Isaac and Eliz .

Odd! I worked back from Susannah Jones living at Broad St, Wallbrook in 1879 (actually in the 1881 census), and found her married to Joseph, with the oldest child being 10.

I found them in the 1871 census with the oldest child being just 4 months old so I presume they wouldn't have been married too long before that (other children may have died of course).

The 1868 freeBMD listing is the only one I can see in the west midlands that would fit with this time scale. Maybe it's not the right one? Both Joseph and Susannah were born around 1843 so may have been married previously --
(though Joseph is unmarried and with his parents in the 1861 census - I know it's him as his father is with him in the 1891 census, and the childrens' names match).

arrggh! why is nothing ever simple?

I'm confusing myself now so shall try to do a resume:

I'm looking for the origins of Susanna Jones who was the wife of Joseph Jones, both born around 1843 in Sedgley.

Joseph was single in 1861. Joseph and Susanna were together with a 4 month old baby, Caleb, in 1871.

So what was Susanna's maiden name?   ???  Methinks maybe I have assumed too much -

It is a problemamatic one ::)
No you have used logic in your conclusions and it just that Susannah does not want to be found pre 1871.
She have been born anything and her mother remarried and she has taken on that surname and then reverted back later. Anything is possible!

I think your only option is the Marriage Cert and posibly Calebs Birth Cert.
