Would someone kindly let me have 1901 census details for a George Lig.  The only information I have on him is from his daughter's marriage certificate where his occupation is a Shoemaker.  From a basic search of the 1911 census there is a George Lig born 1886 and another born 1894.  From freebmd, 'my' George Lig married in 1912.  Address on marriage certificate is 11 George St, Goole.  I have no more info on him but hopefully he can be found on 1901 census.

With grateful thanks.

Zephyr

Hi Zephyr,

Using the free search on 1911, the family I posted on the 1901 census. Are living at 11 George Street Goole on the 1911.

So from your marriage certificate this looks like the correct family.  :)

Kelly.

1891 Census ( Under LEGG)
16 Paradise Place,
Hook, Goole, Yorkshire
RG12/3873/9/11

Wm LIG, 33, Head, Mar, Dock Labourer, born Garthorpe, Lincs
Ellen Ann, 33, Wife, Mar, born Goole, Yks
Mary Jane, 12, Daug, born Garthorpe, Lincs
Emily, 7, Daug, born Garthorpe, Lincs
GEORGE, 5, Son, born Garthorpe, Lincs
Ada, 2, Daug, born Crowle, Lincs
Wm, 6Mths, Son, born Goole, Yks

EXTRA

I found it interesting that a child was named Margrave and 1881 census explains it.
Jane TWEED must have been nee Margrave

1881 Census
Sowersbys Cottages
Garthorpe, Lincs
RG11/4700/87/22

John LIG, 54, Head, Mar, Ag lab/pedlar, born Bridgport, Dorset
Jane, 53, Wife, Mar
Joseph, 21, Son, Ag lab
Arthur, 8, Son
All others born Garthorpe, Lincs
+ Ann MARGAVE, 91, Mother in law, W, born Belton, Lincolnshire

Marriage;
Jane MARGRAVE, March 1844, Goole, 23 237
On the same page William TWEED

Interestingly every entry for LIG on FreeBMD only appears after 1853 and nearly all reg Goole.
The name does not seem to exist pre 1853

I can find a Job Lig on 1841 census but not with Parents.
If you want to try and go back with this line the M/C of John and Jane is crucial to purchase.

Trish :)

Many thanks to Kelly for 1901 census details and to Alan for confirming street address.  Thank goodness the family didn't move around and were still at the same address in 1939!

Grateful thanks also to Trish for all the extra census information.   Thank you Trish for all that lovely information - it will really help me on my way with this family.  I have added the marriage cert of John and Jane to my list in my little blue book.  I am awaiting one batch of certs so will have to wait a while before I send off for any more - it can get to be quite an expensive business.

Many many thanks again to all of you for your help on this family.

With kind regards.

Zephyr
