Help!!
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 19:03 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm a new user to roots chat so hopefully someone out there can help me....

I'm in the process of tracing my family tree and while most of my research has kept me within the walls of The Pale, there is one strand that is causing me problems and that area is Roscommon. My grandmothers' family were from Roscommon from an area my mother and aunt have called 'Clegg'. The family were the Curley's and they had a farm in where they call Clegg (or Cleggs). I cannot find any reference to Clegg anywhere only Creagh. I'm wondering if anyone can confirm for me whether this place exists (or existed) and if anyone knows what it would come under area-wise in the 1911/1901 Census. The last owner of the farm was Willie Curley (died c.1974), his father was John Curley.

Many Thanks in Advance!!

you could order Willie Curley's death cert which would give you his last place of residence.
If you think he was a child in 1911 then search for a William with a father John in the census.
If you know how old he was when he died you might be able to find his birth on the pilot search on the LDS site. This should give place of birth.

The LDS site is www.familysearch.org and go to the pilot search where the index to the Irish civil records are. The site is experiencing some problems at present so you might have to wait a few days to get the record

just to clarify - you will get the record of the birth on the index but will have to order the cert from the GRO Roscommon to get details
