McMaster family, Drumnakilly, County Tyrone
« on: Monday 03 May 10 07:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find some more information about my McMaster ancestors who came from County Tyrone. I have been given the following information by another family member but have been unable to find out anything more about their history in Ireland.

James McMaster (born 1829, Drumnakilly)  married Jane Unknown (born1827, Mountfield) in Drumnakilly in 1844. Their children were:

1. George McMaster (born 1847) married Annie Jane O'Donnell (born 1841, Omagh) in Omagh in 1868. They migrated to   Australia about 1870.
2. Alexander McMaster (born 1849) married Eleanor Blackburn in Australia in 1875.
3. Rebecca McMaster (born 1851)
4. Robert McMaster (born 1853)
5. James McMaster (born 1856)
6. Joseph McMaster (born 1859)

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have a record of James McMaster marrying Jane McMaster on 24 Oct 1848 in Mountfield Church of Ireland, Parish of Cappagh, Omagh. I cannot find a record of any children as Civil records of births did not start until 1864.

Hi

Thankyou very much for your information. This could be my family since the names, date and location are pretty close, no way of knowing for sure I guess. It will also be a help having a parish name to follow up  because I am not very familiar with geographical locations in Ireland.

Thankyou again

Pat

I don't know if there is a family tie-in here or not, but my ancestors include John McMaster, born between 1830 and 1835 in County Tyrone, who emigrated to the U.S. around 1853 and settled in Lee County, Illinois. He had a brother named Oliver McMaster who also came to the U.S. and maybe a sister named Elizabeth. I don't know his father's name, but family legend is that he was some sort of a lay preacher in the Catholic Church.

I am not sure if there is any connection or not, but my ancestors were not Catholic so based on your family legend it is probably a different McMaster family. The name is reasonably common so it makes it difficult to research doesn't it.
