Birchall 1861 census
« on: Saturday 26 March 05 12:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi I'm looking for information for John Birchall and his wife Sarah (?nee Morgan), also their son Peter born 1860.  In  1860 they were living at 22 Durham Street Shelton.  Any information would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes.

Hi

they were not living at 22 Durham St in 1861, there is a Davis family there......

Do you know where they were in 1871??

Sorry Lee I got myself a bit mixed up with the address because I'm still very new to this.  The address on my g Grandfathers birth certificate is JUST Durham Street NO NUMBER.  I misread the certificate he was born on the 22nd May.  I don't know what number Durham Street it was.
Someone has kindly sent me some details of the 1871 census and Peters Father had died and his Mother had remarried the family were then living at 139 March Street Shelton. So did Durham Street definately exist?
Many thanks and best wishes Pam

Yes Durham St did exist in 1861 - although I can only find odd numbers 1-23 and even numbers 18-30. There are no BIRCHALLS at these numbers.

I will have a look see if I can find the rest....

Hi
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SINCE ORIGINAL POST.
Can anyone help with an 1861 Census look up on BIRCHALL .  I have some additional information since my original post above.
The family members are:
John BIRCHALL Father, Sarah BIRCHALL Mother age 30, Hannah BIRCHALL daughter age 6, James BIRCHALL age 5.  Peter BIRCHALL son b 1860.
John and Sarah BIRCHALL were married at Wolverhampton 1847.  Peter Birchall their youngest child was born Shelton but on following Census lists Hanley as his birthplace.  By 1871 John BIRCHALL has died and Sarah has remarried.  Hannah and James birthplace on the 1871 Census is given as Derby though the family are still living in the Hanley area.  I hope that this extra information helps discover them.
Best Wishes to all
Rhial

Hi Rhial,

are you still interested in this? I may have found the family as follows in a lodging house at Witton St in Witton, Cheshire:

John Birchall, mar, 36, chainmaker, b. Lancashire Oldham
Sarah do., mar, 29, chainmaker wife b. Ireland
John do., 13, chainmaker son b. Wolverhampton
Hannah do., 7, chainmaker daughter b. Ashbourne Derby
James do., 5, chainmaker son b. Ashbourne Derby
Peter do, 1, chainmaker son b. Handley

The enumerator (later?) added 'Chester' next to Handley. No doubt it should have read Hanley Staffs.

Hi Tati   That is absolutely great!  This was one line of the family that I thought I would never be able to find.  Thank you so very much
Best wishes
