Children's Home and Poor Relief 1905 - 1910
« on: Thursday 06 May 10 16:29 BST (UK) »
Could anyone tell me if there was a Children's home in Elgin in the early 1900s and if records are available.

Also are Poor Relief records available for the same period.  If so are they recorded by individual churches or is there a central record.

Thanks

Betty

The Elgin Poor Relief records are mostly indexed on LIBINDX. Responsibility for the relief of the poor passed from the kirks to the parochial boards in 1845. There is no central record and not all parochial boards' records have survived.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately the person I am researching has not been recorded on Libindx in any form.  She did live away from the Elgin area for some time.

I am trying to find areas of research I can try and find out more of her life.

Thanks for your time

Betty
