Family from Straffan help needed please!
« on: Monday 10 May 10 11:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anybody please help?

I have the following family whose children were all born in Straffan:

Zachariah Stevenson or Stephenson born England c 1856
Elizabeth ? his wife born c 1860 in Co down

And their children:
Mary born 1887
Sarah Elizabeth born 1888
Margaret or Maggie born 1890
Chirstina born 1892
John Alexander born 1893

I cannot not find a marriage for Zachariah and Elizabeth?

Can anybody help with either a marriage for Zachariah and Elizabeth or does anyone know if there is an 1891 Census for Kildare anywhere.

I have found this family in 1901 on the Census for Co Antrim.

Really Struggling

Rgds
Cheryl

The 1891 census was destroyed, 1901 is the oldest available.

Have you searched the Irish Civil BMD index for the births & marriage ?

Hi

I have the births but it lists mother as Elizabeth Unknown?

Do you know if there is a 1911 Census for Ireland online anywhere?
Possibly for Belfast?

In May 1915 Sarah Elizabeth Stevenson married my Grandads brother Frank Spencer he sadly got killed in October 1915 on the Somme. Her father Zachariah was deceased on the marriage certificate. So I am assuming he died somewhere between 1901 and 1915 but again i am not sure where.

At the time of his death Sarah was living in Belfast with her mother.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rgds

I see a possible marriage on the BMD Index, in Co. Kildare :

 Name: Zacharias Stephenson
 Registration District: Celbridge
 Event Type: Marriage
Quarter and Year: Apr - Jun 1886
 Volume Number: 2 / Page Number: 401

Complete 1911 Census is online - see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Hi Shane,

Have just looked on the 1911 Census have found Christina working as a servant, but I can't find Zachariah or his wife Elizabeth.

He could have been dead by then though.

Where did you find that marriage?

I found the marriage reference on the Civil Index - see the topic 2 Minute Introduction to Irish Records for details on this.

The familysearch Irish Civil Index  has been giving some problems since a recent update, so some records are not showing up correctly.
