dooley family
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 15:55 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please provide me with any info on Bryan Dooley and his wife Catherine [ don't know her surname] . They were born around 1819 somewhere in Monaghan. I know that they lived in England but I would particularly like to know if they were married in Monaghan before they went to England. Also if possible their parents names, and any other relevant information.

Full Civil registration started in Ireland in 1864 (additionally non-Catholic marriages were recorded from 1845) - maybe a little too late for the Dooley marriage...

You will need to know the family's religion and where the family came from (i.e parish, town or townland) to research Church records if they exist. Many RC records dont start until later in the 1830s.

Thanks for your reply Shane, I know they were RC and they had several kids born in Ireland: Owen b 1844, Ann b 1846, Peter b 1851, Thomas b 1854, & Mary b 1857. These figures are from the 1861 English census, so the year of birth may be out a little.

Monaghan is the name of both the county and the main town - so difficult to know where to start. The Irish Times has a clickable map of RC parishes which gives details on the dates, and where the records are available, but I dont think any County Monaghan records are available on line at the moment.
