Ruabon/Wrexham 1837-43 Baptism *COMPLETE*
« on: Thursday 13 May 10 00:46 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have James Green in Rhos census records with a birth year of 1843. In BMD the James Green born in 1843 was born in Malpas so is not the right one, but there are other BMD entries in 1841 and 1842 for James Green at Ruabon.

However, I have been given this Wrexham Baptism which has:
 21 May 1837 bap/o James SAVAGE (GREEN)
base s/o John GREEN (collier) of Rhos & Mary SAVAGE, Wrexham

I know that James Green of Rhos was the son of John Green and Mary Savage, but is this the correct James (i.e. illegitimate son born before they married in 1838 at Ruabon)? or did this illegitimate son die, and John and Mary had another son in 1841/2?

Any help you can give would be very welcome!
Thanks very much
Morgan

Have you checked the 1841 and 1851 census for James to establish his age

There are deaths in Wrexham for both James Savage and James Green pre-1841 but no ages are shown

There are 3 Wrexham births on freebmd for a James Green in 1842 and 1843

Thank you but no 1841 Census for this area unfortunately. James was 8 in 1851, 19 in 1861, but I think people didn't always give right age. (In fact they still don't! My Gran found out her age and birthday were completely wrong when she was 60!)

Trying to find out if there is a Baptism record apart from the 1837 one at Wrexham. His parents married at Ruabon so there could be a baptism there (or maybe n/c chapel in Rhos).

Hi again Morganllan  :)

Here's the reference to your previous thread on this family :

I can't remember checking on James's baptism there so will have a look in my Ruabon records for baptisms and an early death.  The census records do suggest that he was born circa 1842/3.

Hi  :)

I've been checking the records - no baptism in the C of E records but there is this burial, which probably confirms the death of the first child:

18 Sept 1841 James Green, Morton Above. Infant

In addition to the Malpas birth reg, there are two birth records showing  on the North Wales BMD for James Green in  Ruabon (RD Wrexham) - 1841 and 1842.

Hello Gadget  :)
Welcome back and thank you for the lookup.

It appears to confirm that the 1st son James died in 1841, and they had another son in 1842 and gave him the same name. 1842 would fit with the Census ages for James too. He was probably named after Mary's Grandfather, James Savage.

Thanks again
Morgan
