Pennington twins?
« on: Thursday 13 May 10 11:18 BST (UK) »
Hello
I have been told by older family that there may have been twins born in LIMEHOUSE, LONDON to JOSEPH WILLIAM & MARGARET PENNINGTON. I have found one-THOMAS JAMES born 1904, the other one is said to be HARRY. I was told they died within their first year. I haven't found anything on HARRY or either deaths, could anyone help please. Thanks.

FreeBMD has the birth of Thomas James PENNINGTON in Dec qtr 1904 and a death of a Thomas James PENNINGTON aged 0 in Mar qtr 1905.

(District is Stepney, which is correct for Limehouse).

There is no birth registration for any other PENNINGTON in the district in the same quarter as Thomas James, so if he had a twin, the twin must have been stillborn.  Birth and death were only registered for children born alive.

Thomas James Pennington was born 4 Sep 1904 and baptised at St Luke, Limehouse on 1 Oct 1904. Father, Joseph William was a sewer man. Abode - 26 Repton Street.

There were no other Penningtons baptised at St Luke, Limehouse on the same day.

However, Joseph William and Margaret had a son Charles Henry Pennington. He was born 6 Apr 1906 and baptised at St Luke, Limehouse on 28 Apr 1906. Could he be 'Harry'?

Charles Henry Pennington died in 1978 (GRO: 9 2406 Harlow Jun 1978 qtr).

Do you have a birth certificate for Thomas ?   If it has a time on it, chances are that he was a twin.  Times were recorded on birth certificates for twins to sort out inheritance disputes.  If no time is recorded, he had no surviving twin.

Hello,
Thanks Nick29,nigelp and avm228 for your helpful info [sorry for the delay in replying]. I haven't applied for any certificates as yet, so far I'd only found the christening of Thomas James-1st oct.1904. I do already have Charles Henry [my uncle], and previous to these there were also Joseph William b1902, and John Dennis b.1903. I'll apply for the birth cert of Thomas James to see if it has anymore info.Thank you all once again for the rest of your info, it's much appreciated.
