Hi Kate

If you know which church a marriage took place in then someone may be able to look up the Church records. As there would be many churches in the area covered by the registration district you would be best to move the topic on the England board to Bedfordshire where someone with local knowledge and resources may be able to help.

With 45 parishes in Bedford registration district and not knowing the parish (it wasn't Thurleigh which is where Sophia was baptised) makes a trawl through parish register microfilms at Bedford Records office a day's task (the marriage isn't on the IGI or BVRI)

You could possibly narrow the field down by getting a list of the parishes (find the marriage on Freebmd, click on Bedford to get a list - you should be directed to http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/bedford.html), and cross off those on the IGI - which you can find at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle
then do the same thing with the BVRI at http://www.genoot.com/downloads/BVRI2/ . The parishes that are left should be the ones where she was married

Easier to lay out £9-25 for the certificate! (With my luck he'd turn out to be illegitimate with no father named!)
