Thames waterman. Essex and London.
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 11:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

My great, great, great grandfather was born in Foulness, Essex in 1842. He is on the 1851 and 1861 census in Foulness. In 1861 he was a farm labourer. He married Sarah Brain in Lambeth, London in February 1866. Sarah Brain was from Oxfordshire originally. On their marriage certificate they say they were of Catherine Street, Lambeth and he was a waterman. One of the witnesses was a Robert McGill who lived a few streets away.

I wonder how the two met? If he was a waterman and lived in Essex then he must have been working at times in London if he met and married there but usually lived in Essex?

Ben
